Meeting: July 14, 2026
16 ITEM BY MAYOR CAROLINE TOROSIS
Request of Mayor Caroline Torosis that Council approve use of $5,000 of discretionary funds to support the Pico Business Improvement District for its Dia de los Muertos event at Woodlawn Cemetery.
The Pico BID is looking to increase community engagement and plans to host several events for the neighborhood and business community this year, including a new Dia de los Muertos celebration. The event, held in partnership with city-owned Woodlawn Cemetery, is free and open to the public. It will feature family activities, ofrendas and other traditional “Day of the Dead” customs and seeks to pay homage to the community roots and culture of the Pico Neighborhood.
In order to support this new community event, expand cultural programming in the Pico Neighborhood, and help ensure the celebration is accessible to residents at no cost, WE THEREFORE MOVE THAT THE COUNCIL:
1. Allocate $5,000 from Mayor Torosis' share of Council discretionary funds to the Pico Business Improvement District to support costs associated with the Día de los Muertos event at Woodlawn Cemetery.
