Subject: Item 16E: Please don’t advocate positions on State Propositions
EXTERNAL
Dear Mayor Torosis and Council Members,
Please don't vote to take positions on any of the ballot propositions.
I find it ironic that you voted to limit the advocacy that Neighborhood Organizations can do for any ballot measure, no matter how relevant it is to the community, beyond the existing IRS limits for social welfare organizations.
Yet, you want to use your position on the dias to advocate for ballot measures with little or no relevance to the operations of our City.
Like Prop 43. You’re recommending opposing this. This measure eliminates a loophole, created by the courts in 2017, to the people’s Prop 13 initiative from 1978, which requires a two-thirds vote to increase property taxes.
The City should not take a position on this measure. Or any of the ballot measures. Please focus on the issues related to running our City.
Thank you.
