1 BACKGROUND
• During bargaining for both Police and Fire
Management (Unit 9), we added an education
incentive pay premium that tops out at 5%. This
creates a compaction issue between the Chief
classification and the next level managers who could
make more on an annual basis with incentive pay. To
fix this compaction issue, while we are going through
the City-wide classification and compensation study,
we would like to increase the Police Chief and Fire
Chief pay ranges by a dollar amount equivalent to a
5% increase.
2 RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended by the Human Resources
Department that the Council, by resolution,
amend the City’s Classification and Salary Plan
to increase the Fire Chief and Police Chief salary
range by 5% to address issues of compaction.
