Mr Tom Schwedhelm,
I recently attended Santa Rosa Junior College’s Climate Action Night and learned about the exciting opportunities to address the climate emergency, protect frontline communities and ensure a just transition for our workers and the economy. Right here in Santa Rosa.
Specifically, as your constituent I ask you to support:
Bicycle Networks: It is time for us to have a complete, safe and low stress bicycle network connecting all neighborhoods in the county.
Equitable Transit: Allocate $3 million of general funds to Sonoma County Transit for the 2022/2023 budget (23%). These funds should be used for:
Increased bus service hours;
Increased bus frequency;
Fare-free bus access for youth and beyond.
Thank you for prioritizing frontline communities and climate solutions with your budget decisions.

My husband and I ride as much as possible to do our grocery shopping and other errands. We so appreciate when we have clear and safe bike lanes or bike/walking trails. We regularly ride from our home to Oliver's Market on the creek trail which is wonderful. There are, however, many areas where clear bike lanes do not exist.
Also, although we see recreational cyclists we see very few individuals riding to commute or do their errands. I would love to see Santa Rosa (and Sonoma County) be viewed as a very bike friendly city. If they can do it in Davis, CA and in Amsterdam we can do it here! Thank you

For the upcoming Budget discusssion, please consider replacing the wire fencing along Matanzas Creek between Tupper St and Sonoma Ave with an iron fence, similar to what is along Prince Greenway path The area is an attractive nuisance People cut thru the wire fencing - I have witnessed many people using it as a toilet Better still to install the fence along the sidewalk - the existing green area just north of the bridge is a filled with garbage all the time Thank you for considering this request

Hello,
We can't attend tonight's meeting be we would like the city, in its transportation budget, to prioritize funding for fully-connected, safe, low-stress bicycle infrastructure. We have 3 children who'd love to ride their bikes all over town but for many areas of the city, it's just too dangerous for them to ride on their own. There is no good/bike safe route from Bennett Valley/Mont Village to the West side of town and the parks that live there (also Snoopy's ice rink, Children's museum, etc).
Look at a SR map, would you want your 11 yo traversing
that gauntlet of cars, bridges, trains, etc?
Buffered bike lanes would be amazing!
The more bikes we have on our roads, the safer the city is and it's better for our environment and community. Please make it a priority to fund the projects needed to make this happen.
Thank you for all you do for Santa Rosa.
We love where we live! Just want to make it
healthier and more livable!

Good afternoon,
I am writing to express the need for a safe, connected network of bicycle lanes in Santa Rosa. I live in the Roseland neighborhood and ride a bike to work as well as shop and take my kids to school by bike. As we continue to rapidly drain the finite supply of fossil fuels that our society runs on, it is becoming more and more clear that we need viable alternatives to depending on these increasingly costly fuels for everyday transportation. Many of my friends and neighbors are interested in travelling by bike or ebike but cite lack of safe infrastructure as the main impediment to doing so. Cars remain dominant in our city and our psyche despite the incredible toll they take in paved space that could be put to better uses, to noise and air pollution, to the incredible expense of keeping a car that is foisted upon the poorest and most vulnerable in the community, and to the millions worldwide whose lives are lost or forever changed due to traffic violence every year, a threat that is increasingly dangerous for those of us outside of vehicles.
When planning a car trip, we ask which route
is most direct or fastest. When planning a bike trip, we have to ask which way has the lowest chance of myself and my children being killed. While infrastructure like the new bike bridge over highway 101 is welcome and sorely needed, this infrastructure is only as valuable as the safe connections on either side of it. We have a great goal in vision zero – and we have a great plan in our bike/ped master plan – all we need now is leadership that is willing to work urgently to prioritize urgent implementation to realize that goal. I implore you to prioritize cycle networks that are safe for all ages and abilities in this budget cycle to the greatest extent possible. The need has never been clearer.
Thank you,
Nick Mallonee

Hello City Council,
In considering your budget, please, please dial back funding on homeless services. I think most Santa Rosa residents recognize it as throwing money down a black hole.
As evidenced by the investigation done by
The Press Democrat this
week, even so called successful projects, like the Palms Motel housing, are in fact a waste of resources. Let's get real, and admit that spending more and more is not a solution. Everyone I talk to in Santa Rosa is fed up with the millions being spent, with so little to show for it.
There are SO many worthy projects, and hard working Santa Rosans who are more deserving of those funds.

My name is Aaron Figueroa. I am a Santa Rosa, district 2 resident. I live in the Bennet Valley area of Hoen and Yulupa. I use the bicycle as a form of transportation for various purposes like recreation, to reduce my greenhouse gas emissions (GHG), to build community, and for my physical and mental health. I am glad to know that the city has
goals to decrease GHG's, I am glad to see small changes being done to some of our roadways infrastructure regarding bicycle transportation, I am also glad to know that the city was able to secure funds for more bicycle infrastructure. This is all good but I have to say that it is not enough. Our current road infrastructure is not
bicycle friendly and is unsafe for the majority of the residents that would like to bike instead of driving. I hope the city prioritizes bike infrastructure during this coming round of budget planning.
