*Data from 17 schools participating in Safe Routes to School. Average across all schools is likely lower. ^^Transportation Injury Mapping System
**Includes racks that meet City standard and are accessible from public right-of-way in Downtown and Railroad Square only. • Once a bicycle/pedestrian count
program is established, staff
recommends using that as the
primary way to measure progress
on mode shift
• Mode share data (percentage of
people walking/bicycling to work) is
problematic for several reasons:
• Doesn’t capture non-commute
trips (errands, exercise, etc.)
• Captures only primary commute
mode, meaning it does not capture
multi-modal commutes (bike +
train, bus + walk, etc.) or people
who alternate commute modes
• Relatively high margin of error
(2019: margin of +/- 0.6%, meaning
walk/bike estimate was 2.3-3.5%)
