Mayor Rogers, Vice Mayor Alvarez and Members of Council,
I am very pleased to see item 14.4 come before you today and extremely grateful for the hard work that Raissa, Gabe and their teams have put into finalizing the permanent parklet program. They held multiple meetings with Downtown business owners who are interested in transitioning their temporary parklets, listened to feedback and adjusted accordingly. The design and building of a permanent parklet will be costly for business owners, so the reduction of fees as much as possible by the City helps limit the impact to our businesses and makes it more feasible for them to establish permanent outdoor dining.
City staff have been excellent partners in bringing this to fruition and I am thrilled to see the temporary program give way to more attractive, permanent parklets that will help with the ongoing revitalization of our Downtown. I appreciate your support of this item today.
