PURCHASE ORDER FOR FIREWALL UPGRADE
Kristie Bartlett, Network Operations Manager
Information Technology Department
June 21, 2022
1 The Information Technology Department needs to replace the City’s enterprise-wide firewall appliance. The current firewall hardware is 10 years old and at its end of supported life; it also is no longer able to receive software updates which are critical to ensure the City’s network is protected from current viruses, malware and other potential cybersecurity vulnerabilities.
2 Investing in newer technology has the benefit of higher-level protection from sophisticated zero-day virus threats and provides enhanced monitoring and detection. Instead of labor-intensive monitoring of threats, the newer technology uses automation to implement protections faster than attacks can spread, thus reducing the chances of discovering a threat long after an infection has compromised the network.
3 Recommendation
It is recommended by the Information Technology and
Finance Departments that the Council, by resolution,
approve the issuance of a Purchase Order to Insight Public Sector, Tempe, AZ, in the amount of $142,897.75 to
replace the City’s firewall used to protect against
cybersecurity threats.
