[EXTERNAL] Gas Station Ban
Dear City Council,
I encourage you to follow the Planning Commission’s lead and enact the ordinance banning new gas stations. We must begin now to encourage only enterprises which enhance the climate. Changing the bus system to all electric is another worthy goal. And providing charging stations to fuel the electric vehicles. The time is now for such decisions; it can't wait.
Thank you for your service,
Chlele Gummer, Santa Rosa

Subject: [EXTERNAL] no new gas stations!
Dear Councilmembers,
I am writing to ask you to ratify the Planning Commission’s direction and enact the ordinance banning new gas stations.
As we transition to electric vehicles, these stations will become obsolete and the city will be left with empty eyesores. New gas stations are being built by large corporations like Safeway and Costco which put the smaller ones out of business. And building gas stations uses valuable land which can be used for housing, parks, restaurants, and other amenities for our city.
I know you care deeply about the beauty and economy of our home city, and this is a great way to ensure that Santa Rosa becomes better than ever.
Regards,
Laura

To: _PLANCOM - Planning Commission <[email protected]> Subject: [EXTERNAL] Planning Commission meeting 7/14/2022 item 8.2 REGARDING PLANNING COMMISSION MEETING OF 7/14/2022, AGENDA ITEM 8.2 My name is Gig Hitao. I am a resident of Santa Rosa.
I support action by our City Council to prohibit both the establishment of new gasoline stations and the expansion of existing gas stations, in Santa Rosa.
I encourage members of our Planning Commission to pass a resolution to recommend to our City Council to adopt this proposed zoning code text amendment.
Santa Rosa has thrived over the past few decades by taking a leading and innovative role to improve our natural environment. This has taken the form of many noteworthy projects, that have gotten the attention of other cities across the USA. Santa Rosa should continue this approach by making this strong statement that burning fossil fuels, which contributes to global warming, needs to be reduced significantly, as soon as possible. Allowing the continued growth of the petroleum industry runs counter to that goal, while the prohibition of new gas stations in Santa Rosa, will add pressure to stimulate the electric vehicle industry and its necessary supporting infrastructure.
Please consider these concepts when you make your decision, today, on this agenda item.
We appreciate your concern for the best interests of the people of Santa Rosa.
