1 CURRENT
• City Code 11-42
• City ordinance for the disposal of toys,
sporting equipment, and bikes
• No straightforward legal process to dispose of
items valued over $250.00
• Police Department utilizes a third-party
auction site to sell items that are in
reasonably good shape, abandoned by the
owner or do not have a legal owner.
2 PROPOSED
• Use Civil Code 2080.4 to create a City
Ordinance outlining the process to dispose
of high value items.
• Facilitate the sale, auction, or disposal of
high-value items using proposed City
Ordinance 10-22.
• Continue to use third-party auction site (as
outlined above)
3 BENEFIT
• Retain greater proceeds from high-value
items.
• Puts city process in compliance with Civil
Code 2080.4
4 RECOMMENDATION
The Police Department recommends that
the Council adopt an ordinance to amend
Title 10 of the Santa Rosa City Code by
adding Chapter 10-22, for Lost Property.
