Dear Councilmembers,
I have lived in Sonoma County for 44 years, and am an elder Lesbian.
I am happy to see that the City is moving forward with the rapid development of the Hearn Community Hub with the Master Project Contract.
However, I am very concerned that your staff report says that the funding for this contract of over $5 million is coming from the ARPA funding originally allocated to the Multicultural Center.
I ask that the City, at this time, make the strongest promise that they will find additional sources to replace and increase the funding for the Multicultural Center.
You have successfully sought State funding for the Library and the Fire Station, so we are confident you can do so for the Multicultural Center.
Thank you,
Liz Larew

Hello City Council Member of the City of Santa Rosa,
As a resident of Santa Rosa and a board member of the Asian American Pacific Islander Coalition (AAPIC) of North Bay, I read with interest about the City’s plan to develop Hearn Community Hub. This hub has the potential to revitalize this area of South Santa Rosa. It is my understanding from the City staff report that the funding for a contract with Ketchell/CEM of over $5 Million will be coming from $10 Million that the City had previously
allocated to build the Community Cultural Center.
I am asking that the City make the strongest promise to find additional sources to replace and increase the funding for the Multicultural Center.
AAPIC North Bay is available to work with you to see the fruition of the Cultural Community Center as part of the Hearn Community Hub.
Regards,
Chris Chang Weeks

RE: MultiCultural Community Center at the City’s Hearn Hub Community Property Dear Santa Rosa City Council Members & Jason Nutt, Assistant City Manager:
I am writing to respectfully urge you to prioritize the creation of a MultiCultural Community Center as part
of the Hearn Community Hub.
Raizes Collective, based in Santa Rosa, was established in June 2015 to empower and engage the community through the arts, culture, environmental education, leadership development, and community organizing. We support artists of color to work with youth and marginalized communities to instill cultural pride and civic participation.
Raizes Collective is part of the United Community for a MultiCultural Community Center.
We hope to
house our cultural and community events and activities in the new MultiCultural Center.
We are happy that the City is moving forward with the rapid development of the Hearn Community Hub
with the Mast Project Contract. However, we are very concerned that your staff report says that the
funding for this contract of over $5 million is coming from the ARPA allocation to the Community/Cultural Center. Moreover, we worry that the creation of the MultiCultural Center will not be prioritized as the Library and Fire Station have been.
Therefore,
We are asking that the City at this time make the strongest commitment to find additional
sources to replace and increase the funding for the MultiCultural Center. Further, we request a copy of the Report compiled during the community input process, and request to join the project process with the other two project components as equal partners and supporters.
Our group is available to work with you in any way to see the opening of a Center at the Hearn Hub.
Thank you.
Sincerely,

My comment is for the Santa Rosa City Council Meeting on Feb 28 Agenda Item 12.5 regarding the Hearn Community Hub project.
I am excited to see that the City of Santa Rosa is stepping up its pace to develop the Hearn Community Hub with the Master Project Contract. A hub such as this, in particular, the building of a Multicultural Community Center, will provide a much needed resource and physical presence in an area that lacked such a facility for a long time.
This Multicultural Community Center will provide space for the very diverse community of, in particular, People of Color in this area, and for the whole of Santa Rosa as well — for
community organizing, language and cultural activities sharing and learning, leadership and job skill development, to name a few of the possibilities that can happen because of having such a facility.
However, we are concerned that the City staff has proposed putting over $5 million from the $10 million ARPA funding originally allocation towards the Multicultural Community Center for hiring Ketchell/CEM for project management of the entire Hearn Community Hub. We understand the importance of engaging a reputable project management firm to oversee the project, but we are concerned that the Multicultural Community Center will not be prioritized and receive a much reduced funding for development.
So I respectfully ask that the City of Santa Rosa, in addition to approving the engagement of the project management firm, will pledge to make the strongest commitment to find additional funding to replace and achieve sufficient funding for the Multicultural Community Center so that it will be a Center that the City of Santa Rosa is proud of.
I myself and my organization AAPIC North Bay (Asian American Pacific Islander Coalition of North Bay) look forward to working with the City of Santa Rosa to connect and engage with the very diverse Asian and Pacific Islander community here in Santa Rosa and Sonoma County - the community that is traditionally hard to engage, and yet, has so much to offer to the social and civic life of all people in the area.
We are also joining and working with the grass-root community group “Community United for a Multicultural Community Center” so that your project will have full community support in every phase of the Multicultural Community Center’s design, development, and future
operation.
Thank you,
Sincerely,
Grace Cheung-Schulman
