Dear Councilmembers, I urge you to support ongoing action on the South East Greenway! This will never be a freeway, so let’s make it the bike way and linear parking which has been dreamed about for years! We need the trees and Greenspace to reduce the effects of climate change and produce new habitat! Thank you, Bill Montgomery

Dear City Council Members,

I have been actively involved with the Southeast Greenway Campaign since 2012. It is amazing that the project is now coming before the Santa Rosa City Council to authorize the land be acquired for a park for all Santa Rosa residents to enjoy forever. I strongly endorse your support and approval of the resolution to declare the land parkland and approve the process of acquisition.

Best regards,

This large piece of land should have a lot more housing on it than what has been proposed.

This is an opportunity to chip away at the housing shortage - - - -

Explore Urban Walking Trails that Connect Natural Spaces

Our Greenway Partners, Sonoma Land Trust and Ag + Open Space, are offering a series of free urban walks in Santa Rosa on Monday evenings this summer. Each of these walks has a story to tell, and we’ll be learning about those stories as we explore the trails that connect natural spaces in our city. We will be walking the Colgan Creek trail on July 31, the Roseland Creek trail on August 7, and the Santa Rosa Southeast Greenway on August 28. For more information and to register, please visit

Child in the Wild Event

A Wild and Wonderful Gift to Our Community
On Sunday, June 4th, Howarth Park was transformed into a kid’s wonderland as Sonoma Land Trust and the Southeast Greenway Campaign partnered to bring Child in the Wild – a day of fun-filled activities to children and their families. The entertainment lineup was a who’s who of local talent as Pomo dancers welcomed everyone and Chinese Dragon dancers worked their way around the circle of spectators, enthralling everyone.

A jumpy house, face painting, and Classroom Safari were a big draw for the kids, while folks of all ages turned the Greenway’s wheel of fortune to win Greenway- related prizes.

Subject: [EXTERNAL] Support for Southeast Greenway Resolution Date: Sunday, July 23, 2023 12:59:24 PM

Dear Mayor Rogers and Council Members,

I am writing to urge your support for the
special Resolution to move forward with
negotiating a purchase and sale agreement for the Greenway property. It is so exciting to be on the way to finally securing this amazing 47+ acre property for the enjoyment of all Santa Rosa residents.

This community effort will bring many environmental and social benefits to the neighborhood and the city. These include safe and inviting paths for cyclists and pedestrians, community gardens, native plant restoration, opportunities for community gatherings, educational programs, water supply facilities, utility infrastructure, and much more.

This project also represents an exciting opportunity for the City of Santa Rosa to achieve its goal for a citywide mobility network that is connected, comfortable and convenient for all ages and abilities. Multi-modal transportation is critical to achieve the city’s and state’s goals to reduce greenhouse gases. This property will be key in achieving that vision.

The Southeast Greenway Campaign team should be commended for their hard work over these many years to bring this once-in-a-lifetime project to fruition. Transforming this remarkable property in the heart of Santa Rosa into a vibrant urban park for the enjoyment of everyone is a true gift to our community.

Thank you very much for your support.

Sincerely,

Jenny Bard

Dear Santa Rosa City Council,
I am a resident of Sebastopol not Santa Rosa but I would like to urge the Santa Rosa City Council to vote in favor of the Greenway acquisition and do all it can to facilitate this project. It will be a great benefit to the region since it connects the city with the parks to the east. It will likely attract visitors to Santa Rosa using the Joe Rodota Trail via existing bike lanes and streets suitable for cyclists.

Thanks for your attention,

To whom it may concern,
I am a relatively new Santa Rosa resident; I purchased a house on Hoen Ave in September 2021 and love my new Bennet Vally neighborhood.

I am beyond excited to see the SE Greenway be developed into a park for the community. This is the most promising development for my neighborhood and new home. I live right across the street from a greenway access point, and my family walks through the greenway several times per week as we head towards Whole Foods or Montgomery Village, and we would use it continually as a park.

I am unable to attend the City Council meeting on 7/25 due to appointments with my clients, so I wanted to express my strong support prior to the meeting. Please contact me if you have any questions or need further support for this project.

Best,

To whom it may concern,
I moved to Santa Rosa in June of 2022 and live within walking distance of Spring Lake Park. I have found the park to be an amazing resource for Santa Rosa. The amount of usage the park receives is inspiring. The picnic sites are beautifully located in the shade of the trees, the lake loop path is always bustling with walkers, the shared borders with Annadel and Howarth provide extensive trail mileage, paddlers and anglers are seen enjoying the lake daily, and the campground is full all summer,
Within weeks of moving to Santa Rosa, I found the land proposed for the southeast greenway, determined that it was designated as a public right of way, and wondered why there was not access to the park through the land (even just from Summerfield). Not only would the Southeast Greenway be a great addition to the Santa Rosa pathways and green spaces that already exist throughout the city, but it would create a great additional access to Spring Lake for many bikers, runners, and walkers.

Honorable Council Members,

As a long time resident of Bennett Valley, I would like to ask for your support in voting for the Southeast Greenway Land Acquisition. This project has been a long time coming and a decidedly beneficial enhancement to the City’s parks and recreation properties. I believe all of the residents of this city, as well as visitors from other communities, will enjoy the proposed changes to that area for both recreational and commercial use.

Thank you for your support.

To Santa Rosa City Council,
I am writing to voice my concern regarding the vote tonight with Item 14.3 regarding the Southeast Greenway. I ask you please vote in favor of this passage as it is a step in the right direction for the citizens of Santa Rosa. This long awaited purchase moves us closer to having park and open space for everyone to enjoy. It will be a major enhancement to our city.

To the Santa Rosa City Council
Please provide due and favorable consideration toward the acquisition, and future planning, and implementation of the Southeast Greenway!
Procurement and development of this property into a public space will provide immeasurable benefits to current and future Santa Rosans as well as visitors to Sonoma County.

The Greenway promises to provide vital and cohesive green infrastructure to the surrounding neighborhoods for relaxation, recreation, safer routes to school, food production and more.

When pathways are completed (anticipated 1st phase of development) it will help create a strong east- west spine regionally to no-motorized travel, linking the City, Regional and State parks to the east with greenways (Prince & Joe Rodota trail) toward the west. Additionally, environmental benefits include: local urban runoff and storm water management, improved wildlife and riparian habitat, mitigation of urban heat island effects, and carbon sequestration.

In this time of social unease and environmental calamity we are very fortunate to be on the cusp of a rare opportunity to implement such positive impacts to community and environment. Much work within the community, and collaboratively with numerous community groups and agencies, has been accomplished over the past 15 years to bring the project to this point. Let's move forward in partnership with all stakeholders, make it happen, and leave a very significant legacy! Respectfully,
Philip Frankl

In the midst of this clear demonstration of Global Warming, we have an extended Heat Advisory. A perfect response to this is to get going on the Greenway project. We need more green - trees, grass, flowers, etc. - to combat this Global Warming, both scientifically and emotionally. And I think this is a cost-effective way to do it on a pretty large scale.

It's also a nice counter statement to those who are worried about the amount of high- rise building going on. I have no doubt that this project will bring Santa Rosa cheers of approval from cities throughout California and the nation that are trying to balance development, water usage, and global warming.

Yes, there will be problems, but on the whole and in the long run, a project like this will be a positive response to a problem that is not going to go away. Please vote for all the steps needed to get this going.

Thank You!

Subject: [EXTERNAL] Resolution on SE Greenway Project
Date: Monday, July 24, 2023 1:59:11 PM
Dear Santa Rosa City Councilmembers,
I am a resident of Southeast Santa Rosa and understand that the Santa Rosa City Council is planning to consider the passage of a resolution including agreements that Caltrans requires as part of the Purchase and Sale Agreement process for the 47-acre Southeast Greenway property. I understand that the resolution must include the following declarations:

The 47-acre Southeast Greenway land will be used for a public purpose.

Land retained by Caltrans for future housing will be served with parkland from the SE Greenway and should not be required to dedicate further land for park use upon development.

Developers of the future housing parcels will be required to pay park impact fees to the City of Santa Rosa.

I live close to a portion of the land owned by CalTrans near Montgomery High School that would be part of the 47-acre Southeast Greenway. I love taking walks in this neighborhood and the nearby parks. I believe the SE Greenway project would be such a wonderful addition to the neighborhood and the city, both as a place for walking, biking, jogging and other recreation, and as one more local effort at saving and maintaining greenspaces that will help in the fight against climate change. I urge you to pass the above-referenced resolution and that it include the above-listed declarations.

Thank you.

Very truly yours,
Patricia Somlo

Hi, I'd like to voice my support for the Southeast Greenway Park. I live in Roseland and look forward to a safe walking and biking connection all the way out to Howarth Park. My only request is that the City act quickly: I would love to be able to enjoy this park with my 5 year old before he is too old to want to hang out with me anymore.

Thank you!
