RESOLUTION NO. RES-2023-151
RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ROSA AUTHORIZING THE SUBMITTAL OF A GRANT APPLICATION TO THE FEDERAL EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY (FEMA) FOR FUNDING OF HIRING 12 FIREFIGHTERS IN THE AMOUNT OF $7,084,440.00; AUTHORIZING THE FIRE CHIEF OR DESIGNEE TO ACCEPT THE GRANT AWARD, APPROVE AND EXECUTE ALL DOCUMENTS AND AGREEMENTS RELATED TO THE GRANT; AND AUTHORIZING THE CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER TO APPROPRIATE THE FUNDS WHEREAS, due to a need to improve response times and meet NFPA 1710 Response Times standards; and WHEREAS, the ability to respond to fire suppressions and advanced life support calls effectively is a core part of the department’s firefighting and all risk EMS mission and the expectation of the population served; and WHEREAS, the City’s request is in the amount of $7,084,440; and WHEREAS funding these positions benefits the public and empoloyee safety by meeting 2 in 2 out standards for an effective fire suppression force.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Santa Rosa authorizes the submittal of a grant application to the FEMA SAFER program in the amount of $7,084,440 for the hiring of 12 firefighters for ALS squads.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council authorizes the Fire Chief or his designee to accept the grant award and approve and execute all documents and agreements related to the grant, subject to approval as to form by the City Attorney.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council authorizes the Chief Financial Officer to appropriate funding equal to the approved grant amount at the time the grant is awarded.
