My name is Evan Wiig and I am writing today to add my name to Generation Housing's petition regarding the redevelopment of the Third Street Garage. The petition is copied below.

As a resident of Santa Rosa, I ask you to ensure a vibrant, equitable, and sustainable downtown. The upcoming vote on the Third Street Garage offers a rare opportunity for meaningful change.

Soon you'll decide on an Exclusive Negotiation Agreement for the Third Street Garage. This isn't just about parking; it's a decision that will shape Santa Rosa's future.

While some may worry about reduced parking, the broader community stands to gain more. The City of Santa Rosa’s own reports show that most city parking goes unused even during peak hours.

Converting spaces like the Third Street Garage into housing can foster a more walkable, less car-dependent downtown that will help attract more businesses and improve public life.

As you vote, think beyond parking. You have the power to create a vibrant and inclusive downtown Santa Rosa, which aligns perfectly with the community's long- term vision.

Thank you for your attention.

I am relatively new to Sonoma County, but I have encountered so many people with housing problems--all centered on affordability and availability. Shouldn't we do better for our residents? This is such a wealthy county and the disparities hurt to see.

Hello,
The downtown parking garage and city lots under discussion should be converted to housing. The need for housing is clear and these lots fill the bill. Downtown needs more people, walkable housing, and other benefits this project will bring. Please do not cower to the interests of a few business owners for the good of the city.

Subject: [EXTERNAL] Housing at 625 3rd Street - Sept 12th City Council Meeting Comment Date: Tuesday, September 12, 2023 8:21:42 AM
To the City Council Members:

I am a resident of downtown Santa Rosa. Downtown needs homes, workers, and customers, not a barely-used parking garage in a city with an enormous parking surplus that requires millions in repairs. The city wisely designated Garage #5 surplus land last year. I respectfully urge the Council to support the staff recommendation to move forward towards developing this site and converting it to housing. Please consider the needs of the broader city and its residents -- not the interests of just a few business owners.

With appreciation,
Samantha Feld
