Council Members and City Manager,
As a member of the Southeast Greenway Campaign Committee, I am requesting that the Southeast Greenway be one of Santa Rosa’s Priority Goals for 2024-2025. As the City takes possession of this 47 acre parcel, Recreation and Parks staff time will be critical to work on next steps that include a planning process with Sonoma Land Trust and the Greenway group.

The city will be able to offer access to the Greenway which will allow the community to see what an asset the Greenway will be for Santa Rosa and Sonoma County.

Having the Greenway as a Priority goal will allow staff to devote the time needed for progress.

Thank you,
Renee Riggs

THIS NEEDS TO BE A PRIORITY!!!!!!
Copy below of my posting on Bennett Valley Strong!!! Also shared with multiple others

Anybody else as FURIOUS as I am?!!!; Elsie Allen H.S. Principal Gabriel Albavera was instructed by Santa Rosa City Schools Superintendent Anna Trunnell on Jan. 16 to deny detectives access to the students suspected in a brutal stabbing and beating attack. Law Enforcement had to work around this decision and arrested the juvenile suspects the next day as they were on their way to school!! One of the juveniles, a 16-year-old who was confirmed by police to be an Elsie Allen student, was carrying a backpack containing a disassembled firearm!!! What message does this send to all the hard working staff and students in Elsie Allen????.... or ANY school under the purview of this Superintendent??; 'suspected perpetrators will be harbored during school hours if on campus? Suspected perpetrators will be protected if crimes weren't committed during school hours or on campus!!!!!?' I intend to write the Governor, his appointed Superintendent of Pubic Instruction for the State of California, Tony Thumond, as well as all 5 members of the Sonoma School Board!! Care to join me?!!! Let's let them hear from all of us! Anna Trunnell needs to be fired for incompetence and a clear policy needs to be written that schools will cooperate with our law enforcement when they are trying to keep the staff, students, community safe from anyone who would commit such serious crimes and endanger or harm others!!!!You wonder why dangerous occurrences are happening with increasing frequency on school campus's that used to be STELLAR schools???!!! THIS IS CERTAINLY ONE CLEAR REASON WHY!!! -- for more information on this, here's a link to the P.D. article; https://www.pressdemocrat.com/article/news/school-district-denied-santa- rosa-police-permission-to-arrest-assault-suspe/

Mayor Rogers, Vice Mayor Stapp and Members of Council,

As a longtime downtown business owner and member of the Board of Directors of the DAO, I would like to urge Council to consider the following 5 requests that will build on Council’s commitment to the continued improvement and revitalization of downtown:

1. Implement a policy that aids retention and expansion of downtown employment including improved tenant improvement permit review, and review and revision of employee parking options, among others.

2. Conduct a review of the existing Downtown parking strategy, with feedback from Downtown community

3. Address safety issues originating at the Transit Mall to ensure public transportation remains safe for all members of the community, and that the Mall is safe for downtown workers who cross it to access the parking garage.

4. Consider allocation of Assistant City Attorney time to address ordinance/code violation and misdemeanor enforcement.

5. Improve the safety and attraction of Downtown core with enhanced pedestrian and vehicle lane lighting.

Thank-you for your steadfast support of our downtown, and for your serious consideration of these critical items.

Thank-you,
Don Tomasi, AIA

To Whom It May Concern,
As a parent of my third Montgomery High School student, it is my deepest hope/prayer that you will allocate monies for the safety of our children.

The all too regular texts from my youngest daughter that there is yet another weapon on campus and their safety needs are not being met is of huge concern to me.

We are hoping that we don’t have to follow others in leaving Montgomery and enroll at Rancho Cotati where SRO’s are present.

We Transferring senior year isn’t our desire. But if
that’s what it takes for my daughter and myself as a parent to feel safe, we will do that.

One child dead at the hands of an on campus knife is too many.

Regards,
Jodi Curry

Subject: [EXTERNAL] Make Santa Rosa Southeast Greenway a Priority Goal for 2024=2025 Fiscal Year! Date: Monday, February 5, 2024 5:07:20 PM
Importance: High
Dear City Council Members and City Manager Smith,
I am writing to request that you make the Santa Rosa Southeast Greenway a Priority Goal for FY 24/25.
2024 marks the 15th year of our citizen-based effort to create a vibrant urban greenway and linear park on the former Hwy 12 Right-of-Way. As a founding member of the Southeast Greenway Campaign, I have been part of the grass roots effort that helped make possible the City’s acquisition of the 47+ acre property. How exciting that we and our community, county and city partners have worked so well together to make this possible.

We have before us a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to create a world-class greenway that will offer limitless benefits for our city and citizens. Let’s not wait 15 more years to make it happen. Let’s make it a priority goal and give the Recreation and Parks Department the resources to work with the Greenway Partners and raise the funds for a Master Planning Process. Then let’s work together to involve the entire community in “raising the roof” to build the Greenway of our dreams.

Thank you. May your goal planning efforts yield rewarding results for our future! Linda Proulx

Dear Mayor Rogers, Vice Mayor Stapp, and City Council of Santa Rosa,

With regret, I am unable to attend your meeting this morning. It was only brought to my attention yesterday, so please forgive my delinquency in the timing of this correspondence.

However, I do hope that you will consider the following as you strategize and set goals for the City of Santa Rosa.

The Sonoma County Farm Bureau is a non-profit, membership organization whose mission is to represent, protect, and advance the social, economic, and educational interests of the farmers and ranchers of Sonoma County. Our 1,800 members encompass thousands of acres in rural Sonoma County which lends itself to the beauty and sense of place and welcome for all who live, work, and visit here. While most of our members are not residents of the City of Santa Rosa, there are synergies between us that should not go unnoticed. Our members rely on businesses within the city limits for goods and services that keep their businesses and properties thriving. The residents of the City of Santa Rosa, along with all of the County of Sonoma, rely on the local food, fiber, and goods produced by the farmers and ranchers in the county, in addition to open spaces, and the benefit of our scenic corridors so passionately cared for by the farmers and ranchers made up mostly of multi-generational families.

Like so many, there is no shortage of challenges among our members. As businesses, we toil with economic challenges just like any other; however, we are price takers so we must strategize a little differently. We are faced with labor challenges which may look a little different in the non-ag sector, but a challenge, nonetheless. Regulations continue to burden our bottom line, compatible with other business sectors.

These are only a few, but I want to bring to your attention a very large threat to our local food system, economy, and landscape. Animal activists have been trying for years to infiltrate and essentially end the poultry industry in Sonoma County. They continue to trespass on facilities to coordinate their message based on what they want people to think, versus the facts and realities of livestock husbandry. Their efforts have resulted in arrests and even convictions, but this has not stopped or even slowed their efforts. Their most recent attempt at pushing their agenda is working to put an initiative on the November ballot that seeks to eliminate “Concentrated Feeding Operations” in Sonoma County. In short, this is a direct attack on Sonoma County poultry and egg farms and dairies. Should this make it on the ballot and pass, it will essentially debilitate local poultry, egg and milk production, requiring these products to be brought in from outside of Sonoma County.

Our poultry and egg farms and dairies follow animal welfare programs where they are inspected by third-party auditors to ensure the compliance of proper animal husbandry as set forth by the program they follow. Each program is devised by advisory committees made up of animal scientists, veterinarians, retailers, and consumers. Our farmers, ranchers, and dairy producers have and will always put the comfort, health, and well-being of their animals first.

Also, most of our local operations are organic and make up a significant portion of organic production in the entire state. The current level of production and market accessibility allows consumers to choose what they buy.

Animal activists do not fundamentally believe in animal agriculture so no matter what we do, they will continue to attack and spread misinformation to get others to conform to their way of life and thinking. If their overall mission to eliminate all animal agriculture in the nation within the next two generations is successful, their approach would take away a person’s right to choose what they put on their plate or pour into their glass.

On behalf of the Sonoma County Farm Bureau, and its 1800 members, I ask that an important goal is to include continuous discussions and working relationships with our organization and our members to truly understand not only our synergies but our importance on the local economy, food production, natural resources, and Sonoma County’s way of life.

Respectfully submitted,

Dayna Ghirardelli
