RESOLUTION NO. RES-2024-032
RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ROSA ADOPTING A CITY-WIDE INTEGRATED PEST MANAGEMENT POLICY WHEREAS, it is the desire of the Council of the City of Santa Rosa to promote matters which benefit the health, welfare, comfort, and safety of the community; and WHEREAS, scientific studies associate exposure to pesticides with asthma, cancer, development and learning disabilities, nerve and immune system damage, liver or kidney damage, reproductive impairment, birth defects and disruption of the endocrine system; and WHEREAS, pesticides are harmful to humans, pets, wildlife, soil microbiology, plants, and natural ecosystems and can runoff into creeks, lakes and other natural habitats; and WHEREAS, the City of Santa Rosa is responsible for managing and maintaining many different types of landscapes including public parks, municipal landscapes, roadside medians, and parking areas; and WHEREAS, Integrated Pest Management is an environmentally sensitive approach to pest management that uses information on the lifecycles of pests and their interaction with the environment in combination with available pest control methods to prevent unacceptable levels of pest damage by the most economical means with the least possible hazard to people, property, and the environment; and WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Santa Rosa has determined that it is in the best interest of the health, welfare, comfort, and safety of the City’s staff, residents, and visitors to adopt the City-Wide Integrated Pest Management Policy. ///

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Santa Rosa does hereby adopt the City-Wide Integrated Pest Management Policy, attached to this resolution as Exhibit A and made a part of herein to be followed by city staff and contractors doing landscape maintenance on city-owned properties.
