To all:
Thank you for continuing to endure my emails. I promise to keep them brief and infrequent.
The Public Safety Subcommittee
will meet tomorrow, 04/23, at 0900, at City Hall,
Council Chamber 100. The first issue to be discussed concerns illicit massage businesses. SRPD and Code Enforcement professionals will make a presentation.
See the attached Agenda.
Attending a meeting in the morning during the week is impossible for many; however, if you can, please consider attending. If you cannot attend, the attached Agenda provides instructions for viewing the meeting via Zoom.
Lastly, the Press Democrat ran a story this past Sunday covering the issue. https://www.pressdemocrat.com/article/news/massage-parlor-trafficking-sonoma- illicit-happy-ending-santa-rosa/

To all:
A brief summary of today's meeting. It was well attended, and many speakers made public comments. SRPD and Code Enforcement provided an overview of the issue
and discussed objectives. California Massage Therapy Council (CAMTC) representatives offered to partner with the City of Santa Rosa to address the problem. CAMTC works with
municipalities across California, and they have the
knowledge, skills, and experience necessary to address the issues associated with illicit massage businesses without negatively impacting massage therapy professionals who provide an essential therapeutic service to the public. Numerous speakers, including
myself, spoke about the importance of partnering with
CAMTC.
As the illicit massage business discussion ended, Councilmember Okrepkie (Public Safety Subcommittee Chair) stressed his concern
over the issue of illicit massage
businesses in Santa Rosa and their potential association with human trafficking and other criminal activities. Councilmember Okrepkie directed the City Manager to provide the necessary leadership and funding to address the issue.
If you go to the City of Santa Rosa webpage, you can subscribe and stay updated on issues related to the Public Safety Subcommittee and the City Council in general. At every Public Safety Subcommittee meeting and Santa Rosa City Council meeting, there is an opportunity to speak about non-agenda items; this may be an excellent vehicle to ensure the illicit massage business issue remains on the front burner.
Thank you to Councilmembers Okrepkie, Stapp, Alvarez, City Manager Smith, Police Chief Cregan, Santa Rosa Code Enforcement professionals, the California Massage Therapy
Council executive leadership team, and others I failed to mention for showing concern over this issue and making it a top priority to reduce human suffering in our community.
