Dear Mayor Stapp and Councilmembers,
I am writing today to express my ardent and strong support for the new Active Transportation Plan. I hope you will not only pass this plan, but also fund its construction as quickly as possible.

We have ceded our public roads to private motor vehicles for decades to the expense of personal safety, noise, congestion, and environmental damage. People are getting hurt, including my own friend, Santa Rosa resident Nick Haig-Arack who was hit just a few short weeks ago on his bike while riding on Mendocino Avenue, suffering serious and substantial injuries.

The cultural push is towards making this problem worse, not better, as our single-use management of our streets becomes more and more calcified and entitled in the hearts and minds of Americans.

I appreciate that the citizenry is driven (literally) by single vehicle convenience. I’m one of them.

But the break from this thinking must happen at some point and every day it doesn’t, it gets harder and harder to implement.

I applaud the City’s stances in the past to make meaningful differences on our streets, but this moment demands more momentum, more energy, more action, if we are to realize a better way to move through our community.

Thank you for your support,
Greg Fisher

Subject: [EXTERNAL] Support for passing the ATP and funding immediately Date: Tuesday, July 8, 2025 11:46:57 AM
Dear Mayor Stapp and Councilmembers,
I want to express my deep support for the new Active Transportation Plan.

I and many other residents in Santa Rosa hope you will not only pass this plan, but also fund its construction as quickly as possible. Our bike lane infrastructure is seriously lacking connectivity between bike lanes city-wide, leading many bikers like myself to travel on busy dangerous streets without bike lanes.

Additionally, without better pedestrian infrastructure across large corridors like College Ave between Mendocino and E Streets, you will continue to have pedestrian deaths. We have had two deaths in the last year on that stretch alone due to incomplete pedestrian infrastructure which is absolutely unacceptable.

Thank you for your support.

Best,
Teddy Guenin

Dear Mayor Stapp and Councilmembers,
I am writing today to express Santa Rosa Urban Arts Partnership's enthusiastic support for the new Active Transportation Plan. We hope you will not only pass this plan, but also fund its construction as quickly as possible. We need better and safer bicycle transportation and pedestrian pathways.

As an organization dedicated to creating livable and engaged communities, bicycle transportation infrastructure and walkability is critical to healthy cities.

And on a personal level, as a mom in Santa Rosa that chose to primarily use my bicycle for transportation, I am grateful for the huge strides the city has made towards a safer riding environment. I wish it had happened years ago and I am eager to see us strive for more. The desire is there, we just need to build it. photos from 2009 in Santa Rosa.

Dear Mayor Stapp and Councilmembers,
I am writing today to express my strong support for the new Active Transportation Plan. I hope you will not only pass this plan, but also fund its construction as quickly as possible.

While I'm too old to ride bikes or walk much anymore, I am saddened to see how unsafe our city streets have become for pedestrians and cyclists. We live in an incredible area, our city screams for more ecologically friendly alternatives to automobiles. Please get the ball rolling on this plan while we still can. Imagine how amazing our city would be had we done this years ago. Don't make future generations wish we had done this now!!
Thank you,

Subject: [EXTERNAL] Active Transportation Plan!
Date: Tuesday, July 8, 2025 12:05:41 PM
Dear Santa Rosa City Council,
We are writing to urge you to swiftly adopt the Active Transportation Plan Final Draft. The safety and wellbeing of bicyclists and pedestrians in our community depend on comprehensive, forward-thinking infrastructure. Too many residents face daily risks due to outdated or inadequate bike lanes, missing sidewalks, and poor connectivity between neighborhoods. With every delay, we risk further injury or even loss of life for those who simply choose to walk or bike in our beautiful city.

Beyond safety, the Active Transportation Plan supports a healthier and more connected Santa Rosa. Encouraging walking and cycling reduces traffic congestion, lowers emissions, and promotes physical activity—key ingredients for a healthier population. A city that makes space for alternative transportation options empowers its residents to make lifestyle choices that benefit their physical and mental health, while reducing strain on our healthcare systems and improving air quality for all.

Approving the Final Draft will demonstrate Santa Rosa’s commitment to building a livable, engaged community where people of all ages and abilities can travel safely and independently.

This plan is the result of years of public input and reflects the values of our diverse neighborhoods. Please don’t let this opportunity for meaningful, lasting impact pass us by. The time to act is now—for safety, for health, and for the future of Santa Rosa. --
