Dear Mayor and Council Members,
I understand that you will be taking a vote at your next meeting whether or not to authorize the purchase of six BMW R 1300 RT – P motorcycles. Each of those motorcycles cost between $29,000 -$34000 with the manufacturer suggested retail price of $22,500 (but the base model is rarely seen in dealerships).
I would ask that the city purchase (of those six), at least two BMW CEO4 motorcycles. These are made for police city patrolling. They are electric motorcycles that have a range of 81 miles and their manufacturer suggested retail price is $14,550.
In police spec, the CE 04 has
been given LED strobes, a siren system, and a telescoping rear LED beacon,
This would save the city $30,000 and more importantly would help the city meet its annual emissions goal.
Please ask the city staff to thoroughly research this motorcycle in order to determine its effectiveness for city use.
