CM Dilles attended a Racial Equity Institute webinar which was put on by the Santa Cruz Community Foundation. The webinar covered institutional racism and the need to change this narrative, as well as the fact that people need to be willing to be uncomfortable with these conversations in order to grow.

CM Dilles applied for and was appointed to the League of California Cites Revenue and Taxation Policy Committee. This will allow him to bring more revenue ideas to the Council in the future. He thanked CM Timm for forwarding that email invitation.

CM Timm attended the Economic Recovery Task force meeting. He thanked Greg Wimp, owner of Togo’s, for organizing the Halloween Treasure Hunt, a very successful event. They also discussed employee shortages.

CM Timm attended the Mayor’s State of the City, and he thanked Mayor Lind, City Manager LaGoe, and Chief Walpole for their contributions to this event.

Mayor Lind attended the Criminal Justice executive meeting. The committee has been working on a behavior health survey with all law enforcement agencies to better understand the needs in Santa Cruz County. The Chair acknowledged and thanked Chief Walpole for stepping up and ensuring the accuracy of our agency’s survey results and statistics.

Mayor Lind attended a Santa Cruz Metropolitan Transit District (METRO) Board of Directors meeting where they adopted a social equity community funding policy.

METRO is dealing with staffing shortages and had to cut one route.

Mayor Lind noted that the Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCO) published a quarterly report.

Mayor Lind reported that the 2022 Tree Lighting Planning has begun, and she is joined by CM Dilles on a committee with Victor Alejandro to work on this event. The Community Center has been reserved for the first Saturday in December (12/3).

Mayor Lind expressed her appreciation for the support of the State of the City event.

CITY MANAGER REPORT
City Manager LaGoe reported the following updates:

Siltanen Pool: The pool has been resurfaced and next steps will be filling the pool and running tests.

New Police Officer Trainee: New Officer Trainee, Vitani Harrison, is starting the academy this week, and he will be a great addition to the Police Department.

Date: November 2, 2022
Vine Hill Childcare Classroom: The City is working with the Scotts Valley Unified School District on the Vine Hill classroom funding that was received through the allocation from the Federal Government by way of support from Congresswoman Anna Eshoo. There is a significant amount of paperwork that needs to be submitted to the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to receive that funding. The City is working with the school district on this to ensure that their needs and timelines are met.

New Phone System: The City is transitioning to a new phone system, and this is a huge improvement for both the public and the City staff.

Fiber at City Hall: The fiber lines to City Hall are being tested and may be complete in a few weeks. This will mean much faster upload and download speeds and will be a huge improvement to our IT infrastructure.

Halloween Treasure Hunt: Both the Police Department and the Parks and the Recreation Department participated in the Scotts Valley Halloween Treasure Hunt. They had a great time decorating and welcoming the Trick-or-Treaters! Coming Up:
• Annual Staff Appreciation Turkey Lunch (cooked and served by the Executive Team) on 11/15 to recognize and celebrate all staff members. • Tree Lighting on 12/3

He took the course last year and he came back this year to help facilitate it, and he highly recommends it for all leaders to attend. He also learned that Salesforce has 250-man hours a week to volunteer in our community, so please think about how we can use those hours to benefit our community.
