On December 14, 2024, an Enhanced Fujita Scale 1 tornado hit the City of Scotts Valley travelling .31 miles from Lockwood Lane to Kings Village Road along Mt. Hermon Road (the “Tornado”). The Tornado damaged or destroyed 15 overhead traffic signals, caused power outages and downed numerous trees throughout the area including a tree approximately 4 feet in diameter which blocked Bean Creek Road and damaged the Scotts Valle Middle School.

Pursuant to Government Code Section 8630, a local emergency shall be deemed to continue to exist for a period of up to seven days, and thereafter by ratification and extension by the City Council, until the local emergency is terminated by the City Council. The proposed resolution ratifies the proclamation of local emergency and deems it to continue to exist until terminated by the City Council.
