CITY MANAGER REPORT
CM Jett attended the Town Center Subcommittee meeting where they reviewed the proposals as a group, and they discussed the next steps in the process which will include interviews and site visits.

VM Clark attended a Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) meeting where they approved amending the RTC programming in the FY25/26 and FY26/27 budgets. The Commission drafted the unmet transit and paratransit needs, and they entered into an Administration, Coordination and License agreement with Santa Cruz County Coastal Rail. VM Clark noted that the Ribbon cutting ceremony of Panther Beach parking lot is postponed.

VM Clark attended an Area Agency on Aging meeting where they appointed two people to serve on the California Senior Legislature.

Mayor Lind attended a Santa Cruz Metropolitan Transit District (METRO) Board of Directors meeting where they reviewed the projected budget for 2027, and they reviewed cost-saving measures. They also held meetings for the purpose of labor negotiations.

Mayor Lind coordinated a meet and greet at Heron Power, a company new to Scotts Valley.

City Manager LaGoe thanked the Public Works Staff who have been working incredibly hard to catch up on maintenance needs. They have completed several capital projects this year and they have an ambitious plan for citywide improvements in the next year.

The City's two summer interns started today, and we’re excited to have them. Daniel and Maddie have returned home from their first year of college and will be working on a variety of projects, including updating some sections of our Municipal Code. They will present their work to the Council at the first meeting in August.

Citizens Academy wrapped up this week. City Manager LaGoe thanked Tanya Krause and David McNair for presenting on schools and water last week, and she thanked Mayor Lind for attending and answering the group’s questions this week. The participants expressed gratitude to all the staff who stayed late and prepared presentations for them, and they all found the experience very valuable. City Manager LaGoe also thanked City Clerk Simonovich who ran the program this year, and managed all communications and logistics to make the program a success.

The Police Department will be participating in the Special Olympics Torch Run tomorrow morning on West Cliff.

The Police Department will have extra DUI enforcement funded through the OTS grant on Memorial Day.

The Public Works staff is working on permits for a lot of work along Scotts Valley Drive and Mt Hermon Road. The work is related to developments, and extensive utility work is being planned for early this summer.

Through a CalRecycle grant, 13 new combination recycling and trash disposal units were installed in Skypark today. These are "crow proof" so it will cut down on a lot of the mess caused by birds getting into the receptacles.

The Public Works crew also improved pedestrian safety in the Skypark neighborhood today by painting the crosswalk and adding a stop stencil at the intersection of Sky Park Drive and Coast Range Drive, closest to the tennis courts. They used reflective paint to increase nighttime visibility.

The City Clerk and County Clerk will be hosting a Candidate Information Night on Tuesday, June 9th,at 5:30 PM here in the Council Chambers and online for anyone interested in running for City Council. More information will be posted on the City’s website and social media channels.

City Manager LaGoe attended a Library Facility Financing Authority (LFFA) and Joint Powers Association (JPA) board meeting on May 7th where they reviewed the draft budget and adopted a new strategic plan. City Manager LaGoe shared that there’s a new partnership between the Boys & Girls Club and the Library to provide youth programming on early release days, and it’s going very well.

City Manager LaGoe participated in interviews for the 26/27 Cabrillo College Fellows program, and two Fellows were selected. Based on their interests, one will intern with the City of Watsonville, and a second will intern next summer with the Library system.

City Manager LaGoe attended the inaugural RING Executive Committee meeting last week where they received updates and appointed representatives to a subcommittee to work on a future JPA formation.

This afternoon City Manager LaGoe attended the quarterly meeting to review sales tax reporting. This meeting covered the data from October 2025 through December 2025 and, as expected, the results were lack luster. Some dips were offset by a few gains, but overall sales tax is flat, and projections keep it that way. This will be discussed more in the budget presentation later tonight.

Tomorrow, the City Staff will participate in an emergency preparedness exercise to practice the roles in responding to a natural disaster such as a wildfire.
