NEIGHBORHOOD IMPROVEMENT
COMMISSION’S
HOUSE OF THE MONTH SELECTION FOR
JUNE & JULY 2025
Item 7.B
August 7, 2025
Dan Meewis, Assistant City Manager
Background
2 One of the ongoing projects the Neighborhood
Improvement Commission is tasked with is selecting a
"House of the Month". This was created from one of the
main duties of the commission: encourage citizens to
beautify and upgrade their property and landscaping,
and to remove items that adversely influence property
values. The house of the month program is the
commission's way to encourage residents to upgrade
their property.

Ordinance Amending Titles 5 and 17 to
Regulate the Sales of Firearms and
Ammunition
August 7, 2025 | City Council
Item 9.A.
2 •The Municipal Code currently treats the
sales of firearms and ammunition as a
“General Retail” use.
•On March 20, 2025, Council directed staff to
review appropriate locations for the sale of
firearms and ammunition within Seaside.
•The proposed Ordinance would provide
revised regulations.
Background
3 •The proposed Ordinance would amend
Title 5 to address issues related to
operational security requirements.
• Goal is to prevent the theft of firearms.
•Police Chief would evaluate the property
and determine whether the License
would be appropriate.
Proposed Ordinance
4 • The Ordinance also modifies Title 17 (Zoning
Ordinance) to specify appropriate locations.
• Requirements relating to location would include:
• Define new use and require a Use Permit for all applications • Limit locations to southwest portion of the City
• Limit locations to Community Commercial (CC) and Regional General Commercial (CRG) Zoning Districts
• Require minimum distances from certain sensitive uses.
Proposed Ordinance
• Sales would only be
allowed west of Noche
Buena Street and south of

• This reduces security
risks by concentrating
uses in close proximity to
police resources and
away from heavily
residential areas.
