Dear Sebastopol City Council,
We are writing to ask that you consider option B for your Calder Creek Project and reject option C. Our family has been members of the Sebastopol Community for over 100 years. We have had three generations play on the Polley field and get to experience the magic of a nighttime baseball game in Sonoma County. Sebastopol has one of the only two little league regulation size baseball fields with lights for young kids to experience this type of magic in Sonoma County. This field not only serves our community, but numerous other communities that look forward to playing against our local teams on that field as well. Our family and numerous other local families have donated their time and money over the years to maintain this field and provide this treasure to the community. Currently the little league uses this field for spring seasons (Feb-June) and fall seasons (Aug-Oct). In addition to the little league, a local adult softball league uses Polley field for their season (July -Oct) as it is also the correct size and one of the only lit fields around to offer a place to play after work under the lights. Polley Field currently hosts numerous families in our community year round. I appreciate that you want the center of town to have a jewel of a park, but I hope that you realize that you already do. This ball field is truly a treasure, and while enhancing around it is a wonderful idea, replacing the field would be a huge detriment to this communities kids and adults.
With the number of children currently enrolled in Sebastopol Little League, loosing this field would result in Sebastopol Little League no longer existing. This would force all our local families to travel elsewhere for youth baseball. We are asking that you consider option B, and please don’t replace the jewel of this community. Thank you in advance for considering option B.
Best Regards,
Mel & Janeen Sanchietti
