Dear Sebastopol City Council,
My name is Jean Paul (JP) Merlaud. I am a local business owner and, also the current West County High School freshman baseball manager. I have coached baseball in this beloved town for over 20 years and have mentored hundreds of young productive citizens along the way. It was brought to my attention a proposal by the City of Sebastopol to rip out Polley Little League field in favor of a dog park.
We should all recognize and cherish that Polley Field is a landmark and true gem of our beloved City. The field was constructed in 1957 and has been a fundamental setting of Sebastopol ever since. Polley field delivers the ambiance of a major league baseball diamond. Probably the greatest attribute of Polley Field is it offers children the opportunity to participate in night baseball games under lights, just like a Big Leaguer. Not too many towns in this county can make that claim.
I urge our esteemed City Council members reconsider the social impact this would cause for hundreds of households throughout West County with children who participate in youth sports.
Warmest regards.
Jean Paul Merlaud
