I am writing in support of a proposed Ordinance to revise the Zoning Ordinance to prohibit new Gas Stations in Sebastopol, today's city council meeting 17. Public hearing – First Reading.
This will be an important, if symbolic, step towards eliminating fossil fuel GHG emissions in city boundaries.
I am referring to the new report, released yesterday by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which warns that unless countries drastically accelerate efforts over the next few years to slash their emissions from coal, oil and natural gas, the goal of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius, or 2.7 degrees Fahrenheit, will likely be out of reach by the end of this decade.
