Honorable Mayor, Vice Mayor, and Council Members,
Thank you to the Agenda Review Committee for honoring my joint request with Simon Lowings for continued sponsorship of the Sebastopol Walks Program, Item # 4 on your Agenda for January 17, 2023.
While I anticipate that you will support the sponsorship request, I hope that you will do so with great enthusiasm, as much as my own.
I am honored to be a founding member of this Program along with Richard Nichols who brought forth the seminal idea in 2008. Many years later, after more walks than have been counted and recorded, enjoyed by locals anc visitors, the Program feels like a Sebastopol institution. Folks count on these delightful, docent-led walk happening on the last Saturday of each month, from February through November.
I am grateful for the volunteer help from several Council Members who've created original routes and offered unique insights into our community. Also, citizens, business leaders, and exercise enthusiasts have added their expertise to showcase additional features in our environment.
No other City in Sonoma County has such a vibrant program that provides the opportunity to learn about their community and surrounds on foot. Congratulations to Sebastopol! I extend my special thanks to Simon Lowings and Gary Morgret for taking the reins last year and continuing for another season.
