Dear Mayor and City Council Members,
This year marks the 50th anniversary of both Sonoma County Farm Trails and the Gravenstein Apple Fair. Farm Trails funds its mission to keep agriculture viable in Sonoma County by producing the popular and community-building Fair. Each August, it attracts thousands of local and Bay Area visitors who enjoy wonderful entertainment, food and fun as well as the hospitality of the Sebastopol area.
The Gravenstein Apple Fair is also an ambitious example of how a large public event can strive to produce zero waste at a time when most events of this type are notorious for producing huge amounts of garbage. Sebastopol can rightfully take pride in the tremendous volunteer effort this entails. Last year we even had a Sebastopol City Council member volunteer at one of our “ecostations”!
We, the “Green Team” leaders of the Gravenstein Apple Fair, ask you to fully support this celebration of farms in western Sonoma County that produces substantial benefits to the community, businesses and reputation of Sebastopol.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Alan Siegle and Shelley Brown
