Dear Council Members,
I am asking that you do not support the request for mobile showers at our library. We already have showers for homeless individuals at Sebastopol Christian Church on Mondays and Thursdays from 8-11, along with a meal service.
See: https://sebchristian.com/barnabas
Sebastopol has far more homeless resources than any other community of our size.
At this time, we do not need to offer additional showers, especially in the library parking lot on Saturdays when the lot is used by library patrons and people accessing downtown for the weekends.
Saturdays between 11 and Noon is peak time for weekend use of downtown and the Library Parking lot. There are often events on weekends that require parking. Downtown is struggling and weekend parking is critical to support our local Main Street businesses.
As Sebastopol already offers this service twice per week, I would recommend that this service be diverted to places that do not offer showers such as Forestville or Cotati.
I urge Council to vote no on this sponsorship item.
Thank you,
Kate Haug
