Proclamation
In Honor of Ellen Stillman
A PROCLAMATION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEBASTOPOL
EXPRESSING OUR GRATITUDE AND RESPECT FOR ELLEN STILLMAN AND
RECOGNIZING THE IMPACT SHE HAD ON OUR COMMUNITY THROUGHOUT THE YEARS
Whereas, Ellen is a long time native Sonoma County resident since 1959; and Whereas, Ellen was a gifted and passionate educator and during her career, she she taught physical education, world history, and French and built a popular French language program that inspired many students to travel and pursue advanced study in France; and Whereas, she was the women’s basketball coach and sponsored the Analy Girls/Tiger League, a service club at the school; and
Whereas, Ellen continued as a substitute teacher long into retirement; and Whereas, She helped launch and worked at the Sebastopol Community Church apple pie sale for over 40 years, baking thousands of pies yearly to raise money for church camp scholarships; and
Whereas, She volunteered to teach English as a second language, served as a board member for the local library and shelved books there, organized and distributed food at a food bank, and prepared bag lunches for the unhoused; and
Whereas, She volunteered as a Board Member for LANTERN, who’s mission is to build community support and funding for the development of a new library in Sebastopol, serving West County; and
Whereas, Ellen was a treasure and inspired others to build awareness of all that our library does for our community through her time with Friends of the Library as well as LANTERN, and
Whereas, Ellen dedicated her life to being a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend; and;
Whereas, the City of Sebastopol and its citizens wish to honor Ellen Stillman for her vibrant and inspiring life. She leaves behind her gift of passionate commitment to her community.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED, the City Council of the City of Sebastopol hereby expresses our gratitude and respect for Ellen Stillman and recognizes the impact she had on our community throughout the years.
