My name is Julie Aiello. I was a teacher at Park Side for over 30 years. I am currently the school board President for West County Union High School District. I am very concerned about the proposed cuts to the Volunteer Fire Department. They are first responders and are first on sight to our schools in town. They also do fire education. My son is a volunteer fire fighter and did CPR training at Brook Haven this year. As a teacher, I took advantage of fire safety training for my students every year. They also do fire inspections to make sure our schools are safe. The Sebastopol Volunteer Fire department do extremely important jobs for our community with an already insufficient budget. The calls my son have been on have been life saving. Not to mention the work he, and the other fire fighters, have done on all the major fires Sonoma County has experienced in recent years. It is completely irresponsible to deprive Sebastopol of their centrally located fire department. This city is getting a bargain for all the calls answered by these volunteers.
