Good morning. Afew thoughts about city council and budget. First, I appreciate all that you do as a council and I also appreciate the city workers.
It was wrong to have the employees with the largest salaries on the budget committee, did they reduce their salaries? Some salaries are just simply out of line for such a small town with limited revenue. Funny, those are the folks making the decisions.
Second,the interim fire chief deserves an apology for what was said about him . We are so lucky to have his expertise. Of course he could not approve any cuts to the department. I'm sure you are planning to ask us on some form of ballot to come up with money to support the fire department, merger or not.
Third, I am thankful you reduced funds to groups requesting city money. No money should be spent on anything except public safety until you can balance the budget and have a surplus.
This also asks the question, why create a committee on the library at a time you need to concentrate on the fire department and increasing revenue. It seems a waste ot time and focus when we are dealing with a safety crisis.
Thank you for reading my thoughts. I have talked to many neighbors and everyone is very concerned about keeping our fire department, please give it the respect it deserves. Janese Nank
