Dear Council,
My comments:
- Bringing in revenue is a big issue. Perhaps more
support for local businesses and cleaning up the
square would help. My son got married in Boston
and we had a west coast reception, as well.
Everyone enjoyed what Sebastopol had to offer that
weekend because I made a list of what to do and
see. Probably the largest boost would be allowing
the hotel and getting back Headwest. We lost a lot
of TOT when we lost the Sebastopol Inn.
- With respect to the Declaration of Fiscal
Emergency, I am absolutely opposed. Not only would
it be beyond embarrassing to our little city but
what investor would want to invest in a fiscally
unstable town? That leads me to what will our
homes be worth, is anyone going to want to buy a
home here, is anyone going to want to build a hotel
here, is anyone going to want to start a business
here? Every decision leads to unintended
consequences and this decision would have far
reaching consequences that no one can foresee. I
heard one council member talk about getting in
touch with Linda Hopkins or Mike McGuire if a
Declaration of Fiscal Emergency was passed. Our
representatives can be asked for help now. I
remember the meeting about selling the Sebastopol
Inn with Linda Hopkins and Barbie Robinson. What
happened to the $200,000/year TOT Sebastopol got
from that hotel? Are we still receiving that? I am
pretty sure the answer is NO. So, that is $600,000
the county should reimburse us for. Our council
should ask for that.
Thank you,
Mary
