Dear Council,
I stopped by the police station this morning to ask if it might be possible to access the incident database so I could mine it to identify hot spots etc., and discovered that this isn't currently possible.
Evidently, spreadsheets are populated on a weekly basis, and printed copies of them are forwarded to the Press Democrat and the Sebastopol Times; others lack permission to access them.
I understand that some information regarding incident reports ought to be kept private (i.e. names of victims and uncharged participants), and it seems this could be easily accomplished in a modern database that would allow limited access to interested parties.
I'd appreciate it if the status quo could be re-evaluated in the interest of transparency as an expected level of service.
