Dear Ms. Rich,
I am very disappointed to hear this news. I thought it was important for the Sebastopol City Council to hear what the citizens of Sebastopol have to say on this matter. I had assumed that they would want the same thing. Apparently I was mistaken. In fact, it seems they have decided to pull the proposed ceasefire resolution from the agenda without any feedback from the community at all.

The assumption that those of us who care about what is happening to Palestinians living in Gaza will be violent towards the city council is offensive. Personally, I do not believe I should have to defend myself from their assumptions that I & other supporters have violent intentions towards them, which could not be further from the truth.

Please let me know if and when the Sebastopol City Council decides they want to know what their community thinks about this issue. After all, aren’t they there to represent us & what we want?

Sebastopol City Council Announcement:

Agenda Change for February 20, 2024, Council Meeting
Announcement Issued February 19, 2024
The Sebastopol City Council has received substantial
comments on a particular item that is scheduled for the February 20, 2024, City Council meeting: Item #4 proposing a Cease Fire Resolution. This notice announces a change in the February 20, 2024, agenda as to Item #4.

This item has received an unexpected outpouring of public attention. Comments have been received from our local
constituents, as expected, but also from many outside our City boundaries, including other parts of Sonoma County and other parts of the State.

In other jurisdictions where this topic has been discussed recently, it has attracted large numbers of people and, due to the emotionally charged nature of the subject, has led in some instances to disruption and even violence.

For public safety and because of the relatively small size of the City Council venue, the Mayor and Vice Mayor, who establish the agenda for City Council meetings, have decided to drop this item from the February 20, 2024, agenda.

It may be considered for a future agenda, with consideration for allocating sufficient time to allow all those interested in the topic to provide public comment, and arranging a venue that can accommodate the number of participants expected to
attend.

All those who are interested in this topic are encouraged to submit written public comment
to [email protected]. All comments submitted are appreciated and valued by this City Council.

Any questions can be directed to Mayor Diana Rich
([email protected]).
