PROCLAIMING
March 2024 as Women's History Month in the City of Sebastopol
Whereas, women have played a critical role in shaping the economic, cultural, and social fabric of our society through their participation in the labor force, working both inside and outside the home, in leadership positions, and through creative inspiration; and Whereas, National Womenàs History Month provides an opportunity for schools and communities to increase the knowledge held by our children and our community of womenàs roles in history and their contributions to the development of this nation; and
Whereas, the story of American women is the story of women of all ages, races and cultural backgrounds who led campaigns for equality and civil rights, advanced professional and educational opportunities, founded entirely new enterprises, and contributed signiçcantly to the arts, sciences and humanistic causes; and
Whereas, women from every background have long realized that an uneven playing çeld will never bring equality or justice and as members of families, civic and community groups businesses and legislative bodies, women are in the forefront of reevaluating the status quo; and Whereas, the 2024 theme for National Womenàs History Month is âWomen Who Advocate for Equity, Diversity and Inclusionó, which directly recognizes the women throughout the country who understand that, for a positive future, we need to eliminate bias and discrimination entirely for our lives and institutions; and
Whereas, National Women's History Month is both a call to acknowledge outstanding women we know by name and to pay homage to the nameless women who shared our collective past.
Now, Therefore, Be it Resolved that I, Diana Rich, Mayor of the City of Sebastopol, on behalf of the City Council, in recognition of the signiçcant role played by women, whose courage and vision inspire hope and possibility for today's women to make tomorrow's history, thereby proclaim the month of March 2024 as National Women's History Month in Sonoma County.
