Dear Council Members,
Times are tough. No one has enough money except those few who seemingly have it all. Small towns suffer just as their inhabitants do. Cuts to funding supposedly have to come from somewhere, but it is shortsighted of the Council to remove funds from the Sebastopol Senior Center.
There are many seniors living in Sebastopol. We rely on the Center for inexpensive meals, rides, exercise and wellness classes, and above all, for companionship.
My husband died two years ago. We had no children; I have no close family residing nearby. At a time when I felt most lost and most desolate, the Center offer solace and healing.
The pandemic has shown us how devastating and debilitating isolation is, and there are many seniors daily facing the pain and fear from too many losses. Consider the declining mental health, which affects so many. The loss of the Senior Center would hasten decline. Have you not noticed the increasing number of elderly joining the ranks of the homeless? The Sebastopol Senior Center offers assistance. Please do no remove your financial support from such a worthy and necessary haven.
Yours respectfully,
Cheryl Maynard
