Subject: Creation of City Council Liaison to West County Museum/WSCHS =========================================================================================== RECOMMENDATION: This item is to submit to the City Council request for approval of Amendment to the City Council Committee Assignments, creating a City Council Liaison position to the West County Museum/Western Sonoma County Historical Society and approval of Vice Mayor Zollman as City Council Liaison to the West County Museum/WSCHS.
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
Tonight’s item is requesting the City of Sebastopol City Council approve the request for creation of a Council liaison position to the West County Museum and appoint Vice Mayor Zollman as liaison.
BACKGROUND:
The Western Sonoma County Historical Society is a non-profit organization founded in 1974, and incorporated in 1978 to save the three-acre remnant of Luther Burbank’s Experiment Farm at Gold Ridge in Sebastopol. Later, the Society founded the West County Museum in the Railroad Depot building of the Petaluma & Santa Rosa Railroad on Main Street. Both sites are owned by the City of Sebastopol.
Similar to other Council liaison assignments to various organizations, especially those that are located within city buildings, it is proposed that the Council support a Council liaison to the West County Museum/Western Sonoma County Historical Society and approve Vice Mayor Zollman as the Council liaison.
COMMUNITY OUTREACH:
This item has been noticed in accordance with the Ralph M. Brown Act and was available for public viewing and review at least 72 hours prior to schedule meeting date.
FISCAL IMPACT:
There is no fiscal impact with approval of the item tonight.
OPTIONS:
If the City Council does not approve the creation of the Council liaison position and appointment of Vice Maoyr Zollman as the Council liaison to West County Museum/Western Sonoma County Historical Society, the Council has the option of:
1. Not approving a Council liaison position; or
2. Approving a Council liaison position and discuss appointment if other than Vice Mayor Zollman Item 1 or 2 above would require this item to be pulled from the consent calendar for discussion.
