Agenda Item Number 9: Revised Resolution Calling for Cease Fire Dear Council Members,
I’m writing to request consideration of an update to council meeting structure:
Assuming that the stated agenda order isn’t altered during the March 19 meeting, attendees who want to comment on the cease fire resolution will need to endure lengthy presentations and discussion regarding Sebastopol’s budget before an opportunity is made available.
If the agenda order is altered to accommodate a large volume of attendees who wish to comment on the ceasefire resolution, those primarily concerned with the budget will have to endure lengthy discussion before their opportunity to comment is made available.
In order to avoid similar structural logjams going forward, please consider the option of dividing council meetings into two categories: Proclamation & Resolution meetings and City Business meetings. Doing so would benefit both resolutionaries and those focused on fundamental aspects of city governance. If the meeting types alternated on a regular basis and the agendas for each were stated well in advance, each group would have more time to research issues and prepare comments.
