TO: SEBASTOPOL CITY MANAGER AND COUNCIL MEMBERS
RE: CITY SUPPORT TO SEBASTOPOL NON-PROFITS
I’m writing in support of City funding of our local non profits; Ives pool, West County Museum, Sebastopol Center for the Arts, Sebastopol Community and Cultural Center and especially the Sebastopol Area Senior Center. These are the places and entities that bring us together as a community. They form our identity and provide places to gather. As a former board member of the Senior Center and supporter of all the entities I urge you, the council and the City manager, to do the work needed to help keep these entities afloat. I recognize that the city is in a precarious position financially, but indecision is a “decision” too! Act to make our future town strong again. Do something to “chip away” at this deficit as I believe it won’t be one big solution rather many small ones to increase revenue and control costs. As the new city manager, Don Schwartz, has a big job ahead if he is to lead and implement changes/ordinances and possible taxes to keep “all entities” solvent.
I urge Council members to empower Don to take action, implement proposals and show leadership as it is the manager’s responsibility to “manage” and the council is there to advise and support. Finally I want to mention and appreciate the “City Staff” who work tirelessly to keep the city functioning.
