Dear City Council Members:

I am writing to urge that the City Council not eliminate funding for the Sebastopol Senior Center. I realize that the City Council faces difficult choices to address a significant budget shortfall, but if you eliminate an indispensable recourse for the City’s (and west country’s) senior residents, it will have major, and long-lasting, negative consequences.

I have been a member of the Senior Center for eight years and have benefited from access to a number of classes designed for senior citizens. I am now 78 years old and am better able to cope with aging because of this resource. During the pandemic, I volunteered to deliver meals to senior citizens throughout Sebastopol and the west county. This was an essential service, as the recipients of this support were advised to avoid shopping and exposing themselves to COVID, given their age and health risk.

This is just one of many support services the Senior Center provides to our community.

I urge you to maintain the City of Sebastopol’s support for the Senior Center.

Sincerely yours,
Stephen Wingert
