Dear Mary,
Perhaps you, like me, have driven past our Senior Center on the way to RiteAid or town for years. My assumption, upon glancing at that sweet house and seeing the Senior Center Sign, was that it was a small gathering place with perhaps a teapot and maybe even doilies, a place that would appeal to elders.

I also thought that eventually I would check it out and volunteer in some way.

Well, the years passed and several years ago, pre-Covid, I was part of our local ukulele group that was invited to play and sing there at lunch-time while people were enjoying their meal. I found a bright and cheerful reception area and a wide hallway leading to many classrooms. We were all delighted when the diners participated in our sing-a-longs during out several lovely visits there.

A few years ago I joined a Tai Chi class and was impressed by the large room available for group classes and the other rooms I saw along the hall..who knew?In that class I found an acquaintance who had been widowed a couple of years earlier. She found that class and was finally ready to re-join the world. I then found the SAIL class and was delighted to join Julie’s dynamic group.

You must be well aware of the 124 (in March) individual workshops, classes, meetings, day trips, presentations and even classes on Apple and Instagram.

Well, now I have aged to an active 80 years of age, and guess what..You too will reach your 80s far sooner than you thought.

Please do not let this amazing local asset be a victim of your pending budget cuts. It is imperative that funding continue, uninterrupted and at its current level.

Thank you for taking the time to consider my plea, Melouise Pfeffer
