Dear Sebastopol City Council,
I am writing to express my concern and disappointment regarding the proposed budget cuts to the Sebastopol Area Senior Center.

As a life-long Sonoma County resident and employee of the senior center, I strongly believe in the importance of supporting programs and services that enhance the wellbeing of our senior community.

Our non-profit senior center has played a vital role in this city since 1969. We offer an array of activities, resources, services, and most importantly a sense of community filled with love and appreciation for each person who enters our center.

I feel this provides such a significant improvement to the quality of life for our elderly neighbors. Giving our senior community a space for connection and support is one of the many joys I have experienced in my time here as a staff member.

I urge you to reconsider the proposed cuts to the Sebastopol Area Senior Center, as these reductions would have a detrimental impact on the lives of our members and non-members alike.

Seniors often face isolation, health concerns, and other challenges that can be alleviated through the services we provide.

I fear that by cutting funding to a crucial resource, we risk compromising the well-being of our seniors and with that comes diminishing the sense of community that makes Sebastopol so special.

Thank you for your time and attention to this matter. I look forward to hearing about positive developments at this month’s city council meeting.

Best,
Emily Topai
Lead Receptionist
