To Sebastopol City Council members:
I have recently been informed that you are considering defunding our wonderful Sebastopol Senior Center. How very, very unfortunate that would be for so many seniors and others within our City. It is truly a jewel of our community and it would be devastating to a multitude of people who go to the programs they offer, to enjoy reasonably priced meals, rides to doctors appointments, who congregate with others in the LGBT+. community (where no other place is available), for support and information and to be with other seniors. Seniors experience ill health and depression if they are alone and the Center gives them a place to go to be in community. Here are some of the statistics of just some of the things that the Sebastopol Senior Center offers to our aging population:
Over 6,000 reduced-cost meals served through our Harvest Café Approximately 5,700 instances of seniors participating in fitness and balance classes
More than 2,000 occasions where seniors attended support groups to enhance mental health
Around 1,700 times seniors enjoyed engaging in LGBT+ activities or groups
3,000 rides provided by our dedicated volunteer drivers, primarily for healthcare appointments
Please continue to fund the Sebastopol Area Community Center!!! Do not abandon this wonderful organization that gives so much to so many! Thank you.
