Dear City Council Members,
My name is Kris Ring and I am a community member of Sebastopol. I am writing to emphasize the critical importance of both putting a ceasefire resolution on the agenda and passing a ceasefire resolution as well as the profound impact it will have on our community. The decision to endorse a ceasefire holds significant weight, not just in terms of global solidarity but also in shaping the moral fabric of our city.

By passing a ceasefire resolution, we affirm our commitment to peace and non-violence, values that resonate deeply within our community. This action sends a powerful message that we prioritize dialogue and cooperation over conflict and aggression and we actually care about and value the lives of ALL people who inhabit this community and who come here, fostering an environment where residents feel safe and secure, knowing that their representatives stand for peace.

On the contrary, failing to pass a ceasefire resolution and failing to even it on the agenda not only perpetuates the suffering of those directly affected by conflict but also undermines our city's reputation as a beacon of tolerance and compassion. It sends a message of indifference to the plight of innocent civilians caught in the crossfire and diminishes our credibility as advocates for human rights and justice as well as making our community less safe.

The impact of our decision extends beyond our city limits. It resonates with communities around the world, signaling whether we choose to be part of the problem or part of the solution. By passing a ceasefire resolution, we contribute to the global efforts towards peace and reconciliation, setting an example for others to follow.

It is truly a moral imperative for you to put a ceasefire on the agenda and vote on a resolution. I implore you to consider what a moral imperative means within this context and consider- is your reasoning and acting correctly connected? Thank you.

Sincerely,
Kris Ring
