Dear City Council Members,
I have been a Sebastopol resident since 2018 and am a registered voter in Sonoma County. I am writing out of my care for humanity in support of the ceasefire resolution.
Many well-respected organizations are reporting today of military-created famine conditions in Gaza, as well as more humanitarian aid being paused due to the recent murders of international NGO workers who were delivering food. This is in addition to the catastrophic loss of life that has already occurred; this matter is urgent and dire. This ceasefire resolution calls for an end to all armed hostilities from both sides, which will allow for a return of all hostages, and for a commitment to long-term peace negotiations.
Taking action on these initiatives could prevent thousands of innocent people from succumbing to starvation, will facilitate the safe return of hostages and bring troops home, and is a pragmatic step towards fostering peace in the region, thereby benefiting those living in the diaspora.
Who doesn't want to live in a just and peaceful world with dignity? We can take a step towards that kind of world by passing this ceasefire resolution.
Let's do this! We need all hands on deck, including you! Please consider voting in support of this ceasefire resolution, in support of peace and in support of all of our humanity.
As the World Center Kitchen Founder recently said: "Peace starts with our shared humanity.
It needs to start now." -José Andrés
