Good afternoon, Sebastopol Council Members,
My Name is Jackie Oneal Mermet. I am not currently a constituent of your City, but I lived in Unincorporated Sebastopol with my young daughter for 7 years before recently relocating to Santa Rosa and was active in the local of the Climate Action Committee for several years.

I am urging you to pass the Ceasefire Resolution tonight. This matter is incredibly dire and we must take every action within our power to call for an end to the violence that has resulted in a genocide against the Palestinian people and led to an increase of hate against Arabs, Jews, and Muslims.

As you may know, just yesterday the Israeli Defenses Forces made targeted strikes resulting in the murder of 7 International Aid Workers and the withdrawal of desperately needed aid to Gazans. Source: https://apnews.com/article/israel-hamas-war-news-04-02-2024- 9bdf66771b62af37d85a2800f71c0e6c
Further, in addition to every major Human Rights organization on the globe, our own Countyled Commission on Human Rights has published a letter calling for an immediate ceasefire.

I would encourage each of you to continue to call not only for a ceasefire, but for an end to the illegal Occupation of Palestinian territories and a cessation of US funding and weapons sales/shipments to Israel. I personally find it unacceptable that over $117,000 of Sebastopol's Federal tax dollars are being sent to Israel each year.

I believe in Sebastopol, also known as Peace Town, to do the right thing. CEASEFIRE NOW.

Respectfully,
Jackie Oneal Mermet
