Greetings...
I was the recipient of a group email from the mayor asking for suggestions regarding the disparaging zoom comments Council meetings have been subject to.
A couple thoughts:
Have a five second delay and staff can monitor and shut down racist, offensive calls. I can see where some might view that as too subjective or censorship so maybe it's not feasible option.
And I know staff has plenty on their plates already so it may not be a realistic option.
I think the simplest solution is to prohibit public comment by zoom. If you have the staff capacity you could potentially allow written comments to be submitted through the chat feature (or some other mechanism) in real time to be read by staff within reason, making it clear to commenters that they're allowed one shot per item and that dialogue through the chat feature is not permitted. Of course folks can continue to submit written comments in advance as well.
Best wishes, and thank you for your service!
