Agenda Item 6: Resolution Resolution?
Dear Council Members and City Manager,
The revised cease-fire resolution is included yet again near the end of the April 16 meeting agenda. This is its third consecutive appearance. Why have our mayor and vice mayor continued to tease advocates and opponents of the resolution? Three possibilities come to mind:
1. Butts in seats; How better to fill vacant chairs in the youth center?
2. Provoke potty-mouth bigotry during zoom public comments; How better to justify suppression of community participation?
3. Distract from our council’s domestic policy shortcomings.
Mayor Rich contends that many of her confidants say zoom disruptions have compelled them to leave meetings. Zoom participants have seen no evidence of this, and the city’s vimeo files confirm that mass exoduses occur at the youth center only when Mayor Rich announces continuation of the cease-fire resolution due to time limitations.
Why not schedule a special meeting dedicated to resolution of the resolution? Doing so would allow our overburdened city staff to focus on Sebastopol’s domestic policy while preparing for future meetings.
