Dear Mayor Rich and City Councilmembers,
I am writing to express my utmost delight at the proposed administrative costs associated with the FY 2024-25 Street Lighting Assessment District. It is truly impressive that the administrative costs have been meticulously calculated to be a whopping 31.9% of the total budget. Clearly, the efficiency and effectiveness of our administrative processes are beyond reproach.
However, I have a couple of genius suggestions that might take our lighting district to new heights of fiscal responsibility and innovative revenue generation:
1. Consolidation with a Neighboring Lighting District: Why not seek consolidation with a neighboring lighting district? This brilliant move could offload the pesky responsibility of managing our own lighting district. Of course, this would allow the neighboring district to charge our residents a higher property tax. Nothing says community spirit like passing the buck to someone else while ensuring our residents get the privilege of paying more for the same services!
2. Three-Tiered Pricing Structure: Let's get creative with a three-tiered pricing structure! We could charge pedestrians and vehicles based on their usage of individual street lights. Imagine the possibilities of spending a few million dollars to install wireless sensors in the lights to keep track of vehicle and pedestrian usage. It's a small price to pay for such cutting-edge technology. Residents will surely appreciate the innovative approach of being billed according to how much they use the streetlights. It's like a pay-per-view event, but for lighting! In all seriousness, the current administrative costs are exorbitantly high and divert essential funds away from the actual operation and maintenance of the street lighting system. This inefficiency not only undermines the quality of service but also places an undue financial burden on the residents.
I urge the City Council to reconsider the proposed administrative costs, seek ways to streamline processes, and ensure that the majority of the budget is allocated to the direct benefits of the lighting district. Let's focus on providing reliable and effective lighting services without resorting to unnecessary and costly measures.
Thank you for your attention to these suggestions.
Sincerely,
Kyle Falbo
