Proclamation
Proclaiming September 15, 2024 – October 15, 2024 as National Hispanic and Latinx Heritage Month
WHEREAS, Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15, by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of people of Spanish, Mexican, central, south, Caribbean, etc. descent that have contributed to the rich history and economies of the United States; and
WHEREAS, The observation started in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson and was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to cover a 30-day period starting on September 15 and ending on October 15; and
WHEREAS, This month-long celebration begins on September 15th and goes until October 15th, paying tribute to the generations of Hispanic Americans who have positively influenced and enriched our nation and society; and
WHEREAS, Sebastopol is a City that values diversity, inclusivity, equity, fairness and ensuring that all residents, feel welcome here.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT, I Mayor Diana Gardner Rich, on behalf of the City Council of the City of Sebastopol, do hereby proclaim September 15, 2024 – October 15, 2024 as National Hispanic and Latinx Heritage Month in the City of Sebastopol.
